Using the Yashica Mat for candid photography is a bit of a double-edged sword . With my candids I always like to get in as close as possible, but it can hardly be called fast and it also draws a lot of attention. Of course, because it has a waist level finder a lot of people don't realise I'm taking their picture even when I'm standing right in front of them, which I find a bit odd as the lens is pointing right at them. In fact there are 2 lenses pointing at them. I think perhaps I've just perfected the art of looking like I'm just fiddling with it, which in fact usually I am.
I probably would have had more reservations in using a TLR for street photography if I hadn't come across the incredible work that Vivian Maier did with her Rolleiflex TLR
